EKLAVYA

She woke me up from the sleep, saved me from being ruthlessly butchered in front of the entire tribe for I never committed to anything worth getting myself killed that way. And now it had been quite a while since I ran with her in the woods. We sweated profusely after running to the maximum of our capacity. She seemed to know the jungle very well, and upon reaching somewhere safe, sat down to catch her breath. I was tired too. With apparent assurance in my mind that nobody would find us there, I sat beside her. As my breathing became calm, my mind thought of what had just happened. I could not believe what I went through. It was clear that the dramatic stampede of animals and people was not just a coincidence. Instead, it was a plan, a well-executed plan. And I had a firm belief about whose idea was that. I wanted to thank her, but the apparent language barrier could not let me do so.

After some time, we gathered enough stamina to continue our journey. As soon as I stood up, I heard a distant growl and immediately looked at her, realising there was some animal nearby. Her survival instinct kicked in naturally. After running for my life for hours, I again found myself trapped in danger. I thought who could possibly find me in that dense jungle, but I forgot about the wild animals. It made me wonder if I was really a source of bad luck. The roar seemed to be coming closer with each passing second. I saw a stash of wood logs and instantly picked up two thick and long logs to be used as a weapon against whatever approached us. As the sound became clearer, I came to know it was a bear. My fear tripled! How could I have fought with a bear alone? I had no clue if that girl was strong enough to combat a bear. But I had no option but to give in all I had to save her and myself from being killed. My heart pounded heavily so much so that I heard it throbbing. Besides having basic knowledge of the scriptures, I believed I had developed few combat skills too. I learnt to fight in Gurukul and honed my skills over the years spent in the cemetery. Cutting the trees for wood, digging in the land and other daily activities boosted my physical strength. Now it was time for me to use my training given to me by Acharya Virbhadra to protect her and myself from that monster. While I planned on my strategy and prepared myself mentally and physically to take on that bear, I saw the girl already equipped with her weapon in position. Her attacking gesture warranted that she knew how to fight. I was a bit relieved and drew confidence from her. Rattling in plants and bushes grew, and the roar became louder.

Suddenly, a big brown bear came out of the bushes.
